Biography

AKA: The only part of the website where I speak about myself in third person.

With a voice that can take you from classical opera to the country roots she grew up on, Mikael Short is one of those performers that can handle anything you toss at her, even a crippling jaw disorder. And she’ll do it with grace and enthusiasm.

Hailing from the Crossroads of the West, Mikael grew up listening to the likes of Reba McEntire, LeAnn Rimes and powerhouse Celine Dion. While her musical interests have greatly broadened to include musical theatre and even symphonic rock, these women among many other artists constantly influence Mikael’s musical choices.

Ever since she graced the stage as an unafraid seven year-old, Mikael has performed with Clayton Productions of Salt Lake City, Utah, and also in multiple theatre productions across Utah. Her favorite roles include Anita in West Side Story, Muzzy Van Hossmere in Thoroughly Modern Millie, and Lily Belle in The Curious Savage

After one performance of Thoroughly Modern Millie, an audience member commented that Mikael “belonged on a bigger stage.”

So bigger stage is what Mikael is after.

Despite having the rare ability to mimic voices and styles, Mikael has finally found her own musical “voice," continuing to progress with her many musical talents.

With the help of music studies in high school and college, Mikael started composing and writing her own songs at 18. Her songs have been said to contain a “true, authentic sound reminiscent of great composers from past eras” (A&R Select). With a piano at her fingertips, highly lyrical and emotional music simply flows out of Mikael.

You’ll find Mikael’s lyrics often talking about finding your place in the world and being yourself, young love, struggling with trust, and other personal experiences and aspirations.

Mikael’s vocal abilities have managed to snag attention from a young age, from being selected as one of 10 girls from Utah in her age group to compete in a national talent competition, to being featured on “Don’t Forget The Lyrics” as MySpace Singer of the Day in 2010. Her YouTube channel also receives acclaim, with over 450,000 video views.

You can buy/download Mikael’s first single, “He’s Not There” on CDBaby, iTunes and Amazon.

Mikael is currently in the works for her first EP featuring a handful of her original songs (possibly with a cover in the mix), with an anticipated release in spring of 2013.

Come March 2013, Mikael will be hitting the stage at CenterPoint Legacy Theatre in Centerville, Utah, in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat in the MWF Cast
